Our Story

About a decade and a half ago, Heights resident and salon owner Cherryl Gryder drove passed by Eleventh Street and noticed a “For Sale” sign attached to a white bungalow. The beautiful french doors and large windows that filled the space with natural lighting are what drew her to the space immediately. It didn’t take long for her to decide that 518 East 11th Street is where she wanted to plant roots.

In 2006, Shine in the Heights opened it’s doors for the first time. What started off with a two chair salon being occupied by the owner herself and her protégé at the time eventually grew into a seven chair salon quickly.

Nearly seventeen years later it grew into two neighboring salons with more than 30 employees, still woman owned and operated. It was built on this surrounding neighborhood and this very community that we proudly serve. We hope that every time you step intoone of our salons, you feel at home and leave feeling better than when you came in.
